Revamping Controversial Advertisement

In the last project for Design Studies 2, we are to recreate an advertisement based on a existing controversial ad. In a group 5, we decided to revamp a banned video that was aired in 8tv during the Ramadan period but was later removed due to some racial issue.

The controversial ad that was aired during the Ramadan of 2011.

We thought of during Ramadan theme video but our lecturer, Miss Jinchi suggested to do on racial unity instead. We took her advice and did a video complies of the major celebrations in our country.
And this is the outcome:

Final assignment

I was the director in this group of 3. This experience was really different from before and I was really stressed in this project. The first time we shot the video wasn't good and we have to reshot with a different storyline. This project really changed me the most and learned a lot here. Like how the industry may be worse than this but I already dislike this project. Working with a different group members or maybe members I never worked before gave a bigger problem to me. I learned more about them and see the side of them they hardly show in class. I was surprised at first but now I can understand them more. I guess that's the benefits of working together. Things didn't go as well as I anticipated from the beginning of the semester when we are told about this assignment.

Overall, maybe this is good for me as I always think that my path can just go straight and I'm always right on track. Despite the ups and turns during this project, I did learned a lot and got closer with my group mates. This lesson teaches me that I have to be more self confident, don't be afraid to add more suggestion to what have been discussed and the bad presentation taught me that it's never too much when it comes to extra clips.

Okay move on, this is the shots of the final assignment (with a little different storyline) :

The trailer

Even though the presentation are presented by our group, the videos are all editing individually.

I wasn't satisfied in the outcome because I knew I could do better if I would have think fast during the shooting….

Assignment 2 : Editing with color correction

The video clip were given by lecturer and we have to put it together and editing with color correction

The video edited with its original color

This is would be the color corrected to blue.

Assignment 1 : Animatics

Initially I have problems doing this. Sometimes I couldn't generate ideas for my story line as this is based on the 6 pictures I have chosen earlier. In the end, with counseling and advice from the lecturer, I wrote in instead.

 The final of my storyline:

title : Caged bird

keywords: family ties, control, being shut

Scene 1 In the year 2030, everything is done by technology. What we eat, what to wear or what should we do is all done by devises made by human. Every basic we knew of is all already run under the tip of our fingers, just swipe on your devises, everything will be done and each person has to own one including an infant. It will also tell you health status and such. This is what we called our personal caretaker, known as “ TechnoCare” and each person can only own one a lifetime because it is registered together with the birth certificate.

Scene 2 However, for this girl, her technocare is malfunctioned and is unusable due to some incident she had when she was younger. For that she has to do things manually as her device couldn’t be fixed. This is a very rare case that even the device mechanic is clueless about getting it fixed.

Scene 3 Usually in this era, if the technocare doesn’t work, the person itself is considered “unhealthy” and people will shun the person as outcast.

Scene 4 For that reason, her family shut her in an old house located away from society and didn’t allow her to go anywhere. They thought they were protecting her but they are doing the same as others.

Scene 5 since that incident, she lost her capability to talk so she couldn’t disagree with her parents. Everyday, she would pray that her parents would bring her back home. Living alone is really scary for her, as she was afraid that she couldn’t scream for help. Despite that, she always wanders the house to search for something to do but there’s this one room is always kept locked. She never knew what is in there but she felt curious that she tried to open it. However, her attempt was futile.

Scene 6 Just so one day, she was looking through the drawers in the master bedroom. She saw a golden key in a corner of the top drawer. Thinking which key could it is, she thought of the locked room. She brought the key and tries to unlock the door and she succeeded. Beyond the door were things she never sees before.

Scene 7 Music instruments, which only she sees in an old book, were filled in the room. All this time, she thought that music was only created via technology. She didn’t know it really exist. Slowly, she touches every instruments, arranged a line. From a corner of her eyes, she saw a big instrument that caught her eyes. She believes it was called a piano. She opens the case and presses a key. She loves the sound of it that she begins to press more of the keys.

Scene 8 Since then, she try to play a melody and search for music books and tutorial sheets.

Scene 9 Everyday she plays with the piano and she’s constantly improving. She thinks that playing the melody can express her feelings and she would like to tell her parents her feelings… So she did.

6 Pictures

We are to select 6 pictures related to ourselves but not direct pictures. Then after we have to explain why we have chosen these pictures. So, I picked this six instead..

The Cat is the biggest because among all those pictures, the family ties between my brothers and I are most important. Even if I couldn’t achieve my goals in the future, I know that I still my brothers. Next in size would be both the music and animation studio because both are my passion and accompanies in life. In the animation wise, I love the fantasy (storyline) that comes within. Without music, life would be boring and lifeless.

Fresh air isn’t much of a priority as I can’t really control the environment, but I do hope that it can still maintain by then. I wouldn’t appreciate the cutting of trees because I would be sad without the natural environment around me. As for the turtles, I hope that my self-esteem will increase by than as I go to the open world. It is attached to the studio because it can affect in my career. Smallest of all is the one I wouldn’t want that to happen. If computers were to control us, we would not have our freedom and we will be shut in life.

Keywords: self esteem, family ties, satisfying, calm, freedom, control, being shut, connection, open world, fantasy, enjoyment, sad without natural, cutting trees, company.
